Over 350 years ago the UK was locked into a bloody civil war.
As Christians, we bear a calling to be united (1 Corinthians 1:10 – and about a million other places π).
Sometimes, that’s easier said than done. That can be especially true in periods of war.
During the civil war, this was the exact experience of many Christians. Christians living in Scotland and England were experiencing the tension of wanting to be united as the Body of Christ while their respective countries were warring.
The Westminster Shorter Catechism is an attempt at a unifying statement. Despite differences, churchgoers everywhere could stand behind the catechism as a means of declaring and describing their faith in Jesus.
Format
The Westminster Shorter Catechism is a series of simple questions and answersβto explain big ideas in an easy-to-understand way. It was designed to unite people and make complex teachings accessible to all ages.
Crucially, the catechism is underpinned by scripture – so there’s a biblical foundation to everything stated.
